I was nervous before this wedding.

Maria is my wife Claire’s best friend, they have been best friends since they were 11 years old and I’m proud to call her my friend too. Friends can come and go but if you’re lucky you get to have a person like Maria in your life.  Recently Claire lost her brother Ian.  Suddenly and without warning he was gone. It was a huge shock to all of us and we still miss him desperately. All of Claire’s friends were amazing but at the time Maria was thousands of miles away living and working in Singapore. When she heard what had happened she booked the first flight back home. She didn’t tell us she was going to do it, she didn’t ask us if she should come back, she just booked a ticket and got on a plane home to try and help her friend. That kind of friendship just blew me away, still blows me away now when I think about it. I can honestly say I’ve never been so thankful to see someone as I was Maria when she walked in to our front room that day and I know Claire felt exactly the same way. Nothing could have taken away the pain that she was feeling at that time but Maria coming home made the person I love feel just a tiny bit better and I will always be more grateful to her for that than she could ever know.

So, as I said, I was nervous before this wedding, nervous because more than anything I wanted to say thank you to her for helping Claire and me at the time when we needed it most. Here are a few from Maria and John’s wedding, it was an amazing day. They are perfect for each other and we couldn’t be happier for them both. Oh, and Claire’s the maid of honour in the purple dress.
